What is Financial Planning?

What is Financial Planning?

Financial planning is the process of meeting your life goals through the proper management of your goals, objectives and finances.   Your lifetime goals are multiple and evolve over time as you age. These goals include buying a home, saving for your children’s education, travel, charity, going into business for yourself. Eventually, retirement and estate planning will need to be addressed.

The financial planning process consists of six steps that help you take a "big picture" look at where you are financially. Using these six steps, you can work out where you are now, what you may need in the future and what you must do to reach your goals.

(1) Determine your goals and needs

(2) Gather all facts and financial data

(3) Analyze the accumulated data

(4) Make recommendations with clear action steps

(5) Implement agreed upon priorities

(6) Monitor, review, and update your plan on a regular basis

The Benefits of Financial Planning
Financial planning provides direction and meaning to your financial decisions. It allows you to understand how each financial decision you make affects other areas of your finances. For example, buying a particular investment product might help you pay off your mortgage faster or it might delay your retirement significantly. By viewing each financial decision as part of a whole, you can consider its short and long-term effects on your life goals. You can also adapt more easily to life changes and feel more secure that your goals are on track.

How Ames and Weinheimer works with our clients
You are invited to visit with the planners and staff of our firm to get an overview of our firm and business model. There is no cost or obligation to meet with us.
The purpose of this initial meeting is for you to get to know us, as well as us getting to know you.   This introductory meeting allows you to briefly discuss the areas of your concern. The meeting also allows us to evaluate your situation, and provide an overview of the type of planning required and the fees involved to provide the appropriate planning for your family.  Depending on the complexity of your planning, multiple meetings to gather all the data and input from you may be required.   Once we have gathered your data and listened to your concerns, we will develop a written report with our observations and recommendations regarding how you can improve your financial planning. Our goal is to provide solutions to your current needs, and be an ongoing resource to your family or business.
